Director
Tim received his early organ tuition from William Smallman at St. Chads, Shrewsbury before commencing study at the University of Wales, Bangor. Following graduation in 2003 he was appointed Organ Scholar at St. Asaph Cathedral where he accompanied the Girls’ Choir and assisted in the vocal training of the vocal choristers. From January 2004 he was promoted to Acting Assistant Organist after the appointment of Alan McGuinness as the new Master of the Choristers. In 2005 he was invited to become Assistant Master of the Music Shrewsbury Abbey and became Master of the Music in April 2007. At the Abbey he ran the music, including the Wednesday at One lunchtime recital series.
From 2001 to 2005 he was an accompanist for the School of Music at the University of Wales, Bangor as well as accompanying the University Chamber Choir. Included in their list of performances was a rare performance of the almost unknown Requiem by Alfred Desenclos, singing with Dame Kiri te Kanawa (for which Tim was her rehearsal accompanist for the items with the choir) and two important recordings for BBC Radio.
Tim was Salop Area Chairman for the RSCM in the Litchfield Diocese and was the organist for the RSCM Cymru recording of Director General John Harper’s setting of the new order for Holy Communion, Cymun y Cymry. He is extremely active as an accompanist and recitalist, having performed all over the country with choirs such as the Shrewsbury Cantata and Phoenix Singers, “chart-topping” Fron Male Voice Choir and Wrekin College Chapel Choir.
In 2011 Tim moved to Scotland to take up the position of Assistant Director of music at the Glasgow Academy, becoming the Director in January 2016.
When he has the time, Tim (along with three university friends) is the pianist in a Jazz Quartet with the peculiar name “Janet and the Cats”.
